Peetu Piiroinen
Snowboarder
Biography
Name: Peetu Piironen
Nickname: P2
Born: February 2, 1988
Hometown: Hyvinkää
Started snowboarding: I started boarding when I was about 7 or 8 years old.
Home ski area: Sveitsi Ski Resort in Hyvinkää
First trick you’re really proud of: It was probably the bs3, and after that I really didn’t practice much on anything else.
Other sports: Golf, tennis, and Sunday skateboarding
Life philosophy: Think before you do anything.
What keeps a man moving? Rye bread, bananas, coffee, Battery and my quick feet.
The most beautiful thing in the world? Freedom.
Idols? Esa Tikkanen
How do you become a good snowboarder? I snowboard a lot and enjoy what I’m doing… and maybe you need some talent as well…
What is your opinion of the bag jump? The bag jump is very cool if you remember to still jump in the snow. It’s a good place to test new tricks so you know a bit better how to land.
Finish the sentence: I dance the Finnish traditional Humppa dance … when nobody can see me; how dumb it must look
Finland or the USA: Finland, of course!
What things make you laugh? Jokes and Ville Uotila
Coolest things right now? Snowboarding and tennis
Favorite music: I listen to a variety of things. There are often be seasons when I only listen to a specific band. Now I’m having a Metalica season.
A trick that got you fired up when you saw it? Travis Rice did a new trick in the Air&Styles ....the name is probably some front-edge caba-double rodeo 1080 or 1260. I was immediately fired up – and especially when it was the first time that anyone had done it.
Who is the world’s most beautiful woman? Hard to say, there are so many. But hopefully it we be my wife in the future.
Do snowboarders have groupies? Yes, they do – but of course, there should be.
What does being part of the B-Unit mean to you? It’s really cool to be part of the B-Unit. The team has changed somewhat over the years, but the B-unit still is a great group, that’s why it’s really fun to be part of it.
Favorite ski area: Ruka is always good – and of course, my home ski area of Sveitsi. Abroad – it’s Park City in Utah.
Best ski trip? My best ski trip was probably a few years ago in Park City. They’ve got a fantastic park and pipe. These are both really hard to find in Finland.
Coolest powder run? Haven’t been any of those yet.
If the B-Unit was a band, what instrument would you be playing? Most likely, I’d be playing the harmonica or cembalo
Ask yourself a good question – and give a good answer: How can you successfully combine school and snowboarding? I didn’t!
How much Battery do you consume during a season? Definitely a lot! Maybe too much. At least you stay awake the entire season.
Give a short comment about the other team members in the B-Unit: All are really top snowboarders – and are really talented. Probably you’ll be hearing a lot about everyone in the B-Unit in the future.
How do you start to practice a new trick? Well, first you’ve got to be able to visualize the trick in your mind – and then just do it… I usually know what tricks I might be able to do, and which ones I really can’t. The first attempt is always a bit scary, but now those bag jumps really make new tricks a lot easier. Especially with the double tricks which others are doing out there in the world.
What do you think about ALS ski show shown on channel TV5? I don’t have a chance to watch much, because I’m traveling the world too often. But in Finland, there aren’t too many snowboarding programs. So, ALS is good, and shows the other sides to snowboarding besides only the FIS race results.
How do you follow snowboarding? You can follow online.
What’s your funniest story about snowboarding outfit fashion? In my opinion, there’s nothing unusual about the fashion. But whenever I see someone with an over-exaggerated stance, that’s funny to see.
The Olympics or back terrain? Both
Kimi Räikkönen or Heikki Sorsa? Both are tough guys, but since I’m a snowboarder, then Heikki Sorsa.
What’s your relationship with electronics: I’ve got a Mac and iPhone, that’s it.
What do you do after a day of snowboarding? Usually I chill out at home or then go out with my friends to play tennis or badminton.
How do you spend your time on the computer? I just read the main news headline and keep in touch with my friends on Facebook and IM. Nowadays, I’ve also gotten rather hooked on Tetris.
Do you work out? Yes, I work out quite a bit. It’s a necessity if you want to stay on top and keep your place.
How much do you travel? Pretty much. Let’s say about two-thirds of the year – or a bit less.
How is it worthwhile to spend your time and where do you hope to spend less time? I think it’s worthwhile to spend your time on things that you like and enjoy. I should spend less time on chilling and hanging out, so this interview could be done on time.
