Q & A with Paavo Lötjönen from ApocalypticaPublished on 26.11.2012 6:37
Where did you grow up?
I was born to music family where both parents were professional musicians. We were living in Espoo, next city west from Helsinki, 20-minute drive from capital centre. That’s a hood with lots of nature around.
When and why did you start to play the cello?
I started to play cello in age of 6. First 10 years were just pure fun and not that serious. In age of 16 playing started to feel more like a good option for future career and profession.
When and how did you realize that you wanted to be a professional cellist?
In age of 19 I started Sibelius Academy University of music where I finally graduated Master of Music.
How did you meet the other guys of the band?
University and lots of parties! There I also met Eicca and we formed cello group “Apocalyptica”. Rest of the story has been just pure fun and joy to spread cellometal around the world.
What do you do when you are not touring or recording?
In my “private” life I have felled in love to such sports where you can feel nature and speed. Windsurfing, free skiing in big mountains and scuba diving has been my way to spend my free time. Enjoying my life and free time in my summer house in Iniö archipelago is best way of relaxing.
We’d heard that you have photography as a hobby. What do you like most about it?
Last two years I have found new passion from photography. If you are interested, please watch those pictures in our facebook/apocalyptica- site. Those presents my way to see this world, bit romantic perspective where I always try to find some beauty if possible.
