Antti Pyrhönen Newsletter Sunday 28 August

Victory in Saturday’s final of the Siilinjärvi SX race put Antti Pyrhönen in the lead of the Finnish SX championship.

It was a race with two faces. I am really happy with my win; we had been training really hard in preparation for the last races of the season. I won the qualification and the final as well… my lap times were much better than the others. I now lead the series with a double program ahead in the Lahti SX, which is indoors later in October. I have a 9 point gap on Söderberg and 17 on Kullas.

On the flip-side of the coin, Harri Kullas broke his hand when another rider landed on top of him, that means Harri is injured and out for the Finnish team that will ride the Motocross of Nations in Saint Jean d’Angely, France 17-18 September. That is really sad for Harri and a big shock for our team. I hope that we will still be able to take part in the event.

His request to get a start for the coming weekend’s MX1 World Championship round on the natural and fast Gaildorf, Germany grass circuit was granted by promoter Youthstream. Antti can once again test his skills against Europe’s best motocross racers.

When our last MX3 races were canceled I already mentioned that I wanted to do a MX1 race to stay in shape and have another go with the big guys. It will be a good test for the Motocross of Nations where we race against the World’s best racers because the Americans and Australians will be there as well as the best European teams. Realistically, in these races I will have to fight for a position in the middle of the pack but that’s ok. It will be good preparation for next years MX3 season.
